Horizontal
Vertical
Diagonal
1st grade observed the various lines they saw around the art room. The straight vertical lines of the chairs, horizontal lines in the tables and lights and diagonal lines in the peaked ceiling and art stools, among other objects, gave them inspiration to document their lines in a painting. We even learned how our raised high fives can show vertical and diagonal lines too.
Just found your blog...I'm loving it! Great projects~
ReplyDeleteThank you! Yours as well! Feel free to leave any ideas.
ReplyDeleteDid you use a mixture of crayon, oil pastel, marker pens and Dye for this project?
ReplyDeleteNope, Cheryl, we just used crayons (I had them put alot of pressure on the crayon) and tempra cakes that I get from blicks art supplies. I don't like how many tempra cake brands flake, but theses seem to work well. We painted each of the shapes we made separately. After they dried, we added additional lines with markers. Hope that helps!
ReplyDeleteI did a similar activity to this earlier in the year with my year 1 students, but I like yours a lot better. Next time I will definitely use crayons instead of oil pastels. Thanks. Anna:)
ReplyDeleteHi Mrs R,
ReplyDeleteI am a new casa Montessori teacher (ages 3-6) and I jst started teaching in Sept! Art (unfortunately for my little ones) is definitely NOT my forte and this blog is just wonderful to see what you can create when you know how! Thanks so much! The photos really help too! Just for those of us who are not arty at all, could you write what kind of materials you use on the projects too? I live on a v small island in the carribbean with next to no art supplies so I find it really tricky to do art and its so important at their age! Again - thanks for this great blog! you have made 23 children and their non arty teacher excited about next term's art projects! Miss C x
Sure Miss C! Thanks for the compliments and good luck with your projects! If there are any others you are interested in, please leave a comment and I'll get back to you!
