2nd Grade Warm and Cool Sailboat Silhouettes Square1 Art Project

So successful were our sailboats for our Square1 Art Fundraiser last year, we did them again!

How can we use colors to communicate?

Warm
Cool
Silhouette
Collage
Contrast
Overlapping

Colors used in artworks can tell us the time of day, the weather, and how someone is emotionally and physically feeling.  2nd graders choose either a warm or a cool color scheme to tell the time of day and weather of their artworks and using tissue paper, collaged the background.

Black construction paper and markers were used to finish the work.

3rd Grade Keith Haring Cartoons Square1 Art Project

How can we communicate through body language?

Keith Haring
Body Language
Action Lines
Contour Lines

Keith Haring was an incredible artist who was born and raised in Kutztown, PA and trained in NYC.  He would draw various cartoons of people, animals, and imaginary creatures engaged in different actions. When asked what each of his drawing were about, he would only reply, " It's your job to decide. i only do the drawing."

3rd graders sketched their own versions of cartoons using only action lines and contour lines (or outlines). Each student highlighted their favorite drawing with sharpie then passed their sketchbooks around class until each student got a change to trace a part of every other student's favorite drawings on his/her own paper.

The end result was a story created by each student using a part of everyone's sketch.

Can you tell the stories?

New School Year!

It's time to start blogging again, and what a better way to do so than to show off our new art room stools brought to you by student participants (and of course their supportive families) of our Square1 Art Fundraiser! Thanks to all of you, we have been able to replace EVERY SINGLE stool in the art room (no longer will the seats fly off the tops or tilt to one side or another)! Cheers to new stools!
