2nd Grade Printmaking

Landscapes Turned into Prints

2nd grade studied subjects of artworks and learned to recognize various types of landscapes based on climate, location, and time of day.

Each student learned the definition and placement of a horizon line and what objects in a landscape look like in the background, middle ground, and foreground.

After finishing preliminary sketches, students transferred their drawings to a printing plate, in this case a thin foam plate.

Students taped their printing plates to a folded sheet of white paper. Using markers for ink and scissors for rubbing the transfer, students transferred one color and shape at a time until their entire print was completed. Some students even experimented with transferring more than one color to a shape.

Success!
